This quilt was created in response to a call for original Judaic needlework
by Rita "Needle" Hawkins, a member of The Pomegranate Guild
of Judaic Needlework, through her unique internet newsletter that she called "Cyberstitchers".
Using her general theme of "From Generation to Generation - dedicated to victims and survivors o the Holocaust". Rosefsky used the "Jewish Wedding" as a metaphor for the renewal of Jewish life and spirit that began and continues to flourish today. The quilt, in using certain symbols such as yellow tulips, also pays tribute to the righteous Gentiles, like the Dutch people, who saved Jewish lives during World War II.
The
quilt can be used as the handkerchief held between the bride and groom
during a traditional Hora dance where they are hoisted up on chairs surrounded
by their friends and family or can decorate a small table under the Huppah
(wedding canopy) to hold the wine glasses or can cover the wedding challah.
Note that the quilt," Handkerchiefs for a Jewish Wedding: To Celebrate.
To Remember", will be featured in PieceWork magazine, June - 2005.
The quilt was part of a juried show of Judaic needlework a the Fine Family
Art Gallery- Marcus Jewish Community Center of Atlanta, 2003.
